Last fully intact ice shelf in Canadian Arctic collapses

The last fully intact ice shelf, called Milne Ice Shelf, in the Canadian Arctic has collapsed, losing more than 40% of its area in just 2 days by the end of July. This ice shelf is at the fringe of Ellesmere Island, in the northern Canadian territory of Nunavut. The cause of this is the above normal temperatures, offshore winds and open water in front of the ice shelf.

Namami Gange project included in Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration

National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), Union Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation announced that Namami Gange project has been included in the Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration 2020. This is according the decision taken by National Ganga Council meeting chaired by PM Modi on December last year. The project involves cleanliness and renovation of tributaries of the Ganges.

Delhi government launches awareness campaign to increase preparedness for future earthquakes

The Delhi government has recently launched an awareness programme aimed at ensuring residents, offices, schools and other private and public spaces are prepared to deal with earthquakes. Since April 2020, 18 mild tremors have taken place in and around Delhi. Only two have registered above 4 or mild intensity on the Richer scale.
