Israel, India test technologies to detect COVID-19 in 30 seconds

Israel and India are conducting trials on a large sample of patients for four different kinds of technologies that have the potential to detect coronavirus infection in around 30 seconds, including a breath analyser and a voice test. The rapid testing is being jointly developed by Defence Research and Development Directorate of the Israel Ministry of Defence, India’s DRDO, CSIR and Principal Scientific Advisor.

China completes BeiDou Navigation Satellite System

China has completed its BeiDou Navigation Satellite System that could rival the United States’ Global Positioning System (GPS). It can significantly enhance China’s security and geopolitical power by providing navigation aid and enabling communication and image transmission. It was officially commissioned by Chinese President Xi Jinping at a ceremony at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

CSIR researchers studying mutations of SARS-CoV-2

Researchers from CSIR’s Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) and the Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology are trying to establish the prevalence of a unique mutation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19. These researchers sequenced around 64 genomes and found the unique virus variant, which is an isolate whose genome sequence differs from that of the reference virus.
