Argentina’s abortion law

Argentina passed a new law to legalise abortion, becoming one of the few South American countries to do so. It legalises voluntary abortions at any stage up to 14 weeks of pregnancy. This is to put an end to thousands of illegal abortions taking place, which are often life threatening. In Latin America, abortion is legal only in Cuba, Uruguay, Guyana and Mexico City. In El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua, it is banned and women will be sentenced to jail even for having a miscarriage.
