Cannabis cafes

Cannabis cafes are shops in Amsterdam and are a part of its efforts to curb illicit drug trade. Amsterdam is considered as the ‘weed capital’ of the world. ‘soft’ drugs like marijuana support a drug tourism industry in the region. Though drug use is illegal under Dutch law, possession of small quantities of drugs (less than 5g) has been decriminalized as part of the 1976 ‘tolerance policy’. The Dutch government is to ban tourists from these cafes, starting 2022.
