Chilika Lake

Chilika Lake is a brackish water lagoon located in Odisha at the mouth of the Daya River, which flows into the Bay of Bengal. Spanning across 1,100 sq km area, it is the largest wintering ground for migratory birds in India. It hosts numerous birds from Russia, Mongolia, Central and Southeast Asia and Himalayas. The bird population in this lagoon touched its highest in two decades, with approximately 11.4 lakh birds counted during the annual bird count.
