Confederate flag

The confederate flag is a political symbol in the USA. Though it emerged during the American Civil War of 1861, it acquired political significance only in the 20th century. The flag represents the southern states that seceded from the union in response to the banning of slaves by the then president Abraham Lincoln. These states projected the move as an attack on their constitutional rights. The flag has appeared in the US Capitol for the 1st time since the Civil War period.
