IRIS Makran is Iran’s largest military vessel. It was officially inducted in Iran’s navy amid the heightened tensions with the United States. The indigenously developed 228-metre long forward base ship is capable of carrying up to five helicopters. It was previously an oil tanker. It was repurposed to provide logistical support, undertake search and rescue operations, deploy special forces, replenish and transport supplies, offer medical assistance and act as base for fast boats.
