National Pollution Control Day
December 2nd is observed as the National Pollution Control Day. The date was chosen in memory of the people who died during the Bhopal Gas Tragedy in 1984 – an industrial accident caused by the leakage of methyl isocyanate, which resulted in thousands of deaths. The main objectives of the observance is to increase awareness about the need to control industrial disasters and pollution from industries. It also seeks to create awareness about pollution control laws.
