Swahid Diwas

Swahid Diwas (Martyrs’ Day) is observed on 10th December each year to pay tribute to the sacrifices made by 855 martyrs of the Assam Agitation of 1979-85 while demanding for detection and deportation of illegal migrants from the state. This agitation ended with the signing of the Assam Accord on August 1985. During this occasion, CM Sonowal inaugurated the construction works of Assam Movement martyrs’ memorial ‘Swahid Smarak and Swahid Udyan’ and released the first volume of the book ‘Asom Andolan Tathykosh’ that covered the events leading up to the signing of the Assam Accord.
