USA’s Insurrection Act
The Insurrection Act, 1807 is a Jefferson era (3rd US President) federal law in the USA to suppress civil disorder and aid civil law enforcement. It empowers the US President to deploy the military and the national guards for this purpose. Normally, state governors hold the law and order portfolio and the Posse Comitatus Act restricts the use of military for domestic law enforcement. This Insurrection Act is an exception. Officials in the USA are fearing the use of this law by the outgoing president.
