Womenomics is a policy designed by ex- Japanese President Shinzo Abe, to increase the number of women in the workforce. It is a part of measures to improve gender equality in Japan. It had the set the goal of posting women in at least 30% of leadership position by 2020. The policy has been delayed by up to a decade as the government had failed to reach even half of the target. The country is facing a fast ageing population which is being supported by a depleting labour force.
