Tagore’s 79th death anniversary observed

Rabindranath Tagore, also known as ‘Rabi’, ‘Gurudev’ and ‘Biswakabi’ was the was born in the year 1861. He passed away on August 7, 1941. This year marks his 79th death anniversary. He authored several of the notable works, including ‘Gitanjali’, ‘Ghare-Baire’ and many more. He is known as the ‘Bard of Bengal. He also wrote India’s national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’ and Bangladesh’s national anthem ‘Amar Shonar Bangla’

6th National Handloom Day, 2020

National Handloom Day is observed on 7th August each year to create awareness about the importance of handloom industry. The day was declared by the Union Government and was inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi at the Centenary Hall of Madras University, Chennai in 2015. During this year’s National Handloom Day, Textiles Minister Smriti Irani launched a mobile app and a portal to propagate the handloom industry.

Hiroshima Day observed on August 6

Japan marked 75 years since the world’s first atomic bomb attack, which is estimated to have killed 140,000 people in the month following the explosion. On August 6, 1945, a US bomber dropped the uranium bomb above the city. Three days later, a second nuclear bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. Two weeks following this incident, Japan surrendered, ending the Second World War.
